"Supporting the Light"

The poetry of George Ballance, circa 1976.

Questions come first,
answers later.

The poems featured here are from a collection of poems published in 1976 by George Ballance in which he questions the well-accepted aspects of life: Love, Death, Faith, Tomorrow, Decision Making, and simply being Alone.

He writes in the foreword. "Although my purpose in writing poetry is to make comment on a theme or subject; to question a statement or a belief; to capture in verse a scene or a mood, and all of this for my own enjoyment, it becomes the goal of those who write to have others read their work.

To this end I have compiled this manuscript and if the reading of these poems incite some comment in you, whether critical or approving, if they make you consider the subject matter, I will be satisfied”

We believe that you will find them thought provoking and challenging.

Thank You.

AM.

TO QUESTION
  1. To subject to examination some statement or fact not clearly consistent with truth and reality.

  2. What do you think your doing?
    I beg your pardon!
    You don’t say?
    Are you sure?
    Come off it!
    What?
    How?
    Why?
